Building scientific collaborations to transform therapies
A Therapeutic Mission
We are an Institute within the University of Cambridge, with a mission to make a difference to therapy. Our purpose is to enable the progression of the groundbreaking discoveries from this university and elsewhere, towards better therapies. To accomplish this vision, we have a network of 14 academic institutions and 50 Industry partners, with whom we work together towards this goal. We facilitate productive industry/academia research collaborations within academic labs and from 2018, within our purpose built Milner Research Labs in Cambridge. We foster collaborations that lead to research publications and better treatments.

INDUSTRY & ACADEMIA
Our goals are realised through a global therapeutic ecosystem connecting institutions from industry and academia. The Therapeutics Consortium is an alliance of 3 Academic Institutions and 6 Pharmaceutical Companies who have signed an agreement to engage pre-competitive research in Cambridge. We have 12 Affiliated Institutions and 42 Affiliated Companies who enjoy networking opportunities within our ecosystem. We engage with 2 Affiliated Venture Partners who help mentor entrepreneurs setting up spin-off companies with a therapeutic outlook. The Milner Institute organises networking events, symposia and workshops to enhance interaction between Affiliated partners.
The Milner Institute enables collaborative research within the partner institutions by lowering the barriers of engagement between academic and industry partners. Industry funded Research Projects are established within academic labs through the Consortium Agreement. In 2018 the Milner Research Labs on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus will provide additional research capabilities. The labs will house bioinformatics, disease modelling, phenotypic drug screening and an entrepreneurial program for the development of spin-off companies. This will provide a unique research environment where industry and academia work together for a common goal.
Academic research fuels therapies through the biotechnology sector. The transition of ideas into concrete therapeutic principles requires venture input and space for research. The Milner Research Labs aim to provide such opportunities for budding entrepreneurs. This program will offer space for research in an environment fuelled by industry/academia interactions. Mentorship will be provided by experienced in-house personnel and external Venture partners. These positions will be short term with the aim of getting to proof of concept seed-funding from Venture Partners. This biotech accelerator will aid the transition of ideas into companies with a therapeutic outlook.
